April 6th-April 29th

PreK Press
April 6th  - April 29th
Growing Things and the Spring Season:  This week we have begun to take a closer look at the spring season and learn about how things grow. The children have already begun to create some beautiful artwork for the classroom and will also be doing some planting, comparing seeds, making outside spring related observations, reading lots of books, and learning a few new songs and poems. If your child has anything at home regarding this topic that they would like to share, please feel free to have them bring it in.

Celebration of Learning - Dinosaurs:  Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our very special Celebration of Learning - Dinosaurs last week. We hope you enjoyed it as much as your children loved showing you around and sharing their many and varied activities and learning opportunities.

TCS Spring Gala:  The TCS annual auction/fundraiser took place on Saturday, April 27th at The New Haven Country Club.  It was a wonderful evening filled with great company, tremendous auction items, and delicious food. It was certainly for a worthy cause.  Thank you to everyone who helped support this important TCS yearly event.

TCS Blood Drive:  Please consider participating in our first blood drive here at TCS! It will take place on Friday, May 3rd from 1:00 - 6:00 PM in the gym. The sheet with additional specific information was sent home with your child earlier this week. We are hoping for a big turnout and your contribution would be greatly appreciate

Grandparents and Special Friends Day:  Friday, May 10th will be a very special day here at TCS and we look forward to all of our visitors. We would appreciate it if you could let us know who is planning to attend and their relationship to your child (in writing) so we can plan accordingly. Many volunteers are needed to help make this day run smoothly so please reach out to anyone on the GSFD committee for information on how you can help.

Field Trip to Grass Island:  On Monday, May 13th the PreKers and their Reading Buddies will be going on their annual field trip to Grass Island in Madison. Together they will explore the shoreline, tidal pools and marine life. The 4th graders have been studying these things this year and are eager to share their knowledge with the PreKers. We will be leaving - WEATHER PERMITTING - at approximately 10:15 A.M. and will return to TCS by 12:30(ish) P.M.  The rain date is Tuesday, May 14th. Attached to this newsletter are 2 permission slips (please sign and return) and an important information sheet.
PreK Concert:  The children are also busy preparing for our annual PreK Concert. We are in the final stages of selecting a date and will let you know as soon as we know. While we are not yet sure of the date, we do know that It will begin at 8:30 AM,  last about ½ hour, and will take place in the gym. Parents, siblings, and extended family are all invited to attend. Please make it a point to be here for this very special occasion.

PreK Talents:  The PreKers have continued to amaze us with their presence, poise, knowledge, and willingness in sharing their talents with classmates and Reading Buddies!
Ellie spoke about her amazing ability to train geese, Logan demonstrated his impressive  ability to read, Arlo shared his tremendous skill at building with Legos, Maggie shared some of her terrific artwork that included ceramics, painting, drawing, and creating with paper, Emma shared her talent for singing when she sang “A Spoonful of Sugar” for everyone, Brayden talked about his interest and knowledge of basketball, and Brody showed all of his ice hockey equipment and spoke extensively about his understanding and knowledge of the game. We can’t wait to see everyone else share their talents!

PreK Class Books:   We are beginning to send around a book bag with our dinosaur class book. We want to be sure that every child has a chance to take it home for the night so please read it with your child, write a brief comment on the last page, and RETURN IT THE FOLLOWING DAY to the classroom. Thanks for your help.

PreK Blog:  This is just a reminder to check out our PreK blog weekly to get an additional peek into your child’s busy and fun-filled days. If you haven’t yet accessed it, just go to The Country School website, click on “teacher pages” and then click on PreK.  There are some great photos posted of things that are happening in the classroom and it is updated regularly. We hope you enjoy it!!
