HALLOWEEN
What fun we all had on Halloween!  It was a great day and the children looked absolutely adorable in their Halloween costumes!  We were so proud of them and extremely impressed with how well they marched around campus while “taking in the sights” at the same time.  Thanks for your help with costumes and having the children ready to go. Also, thank you to everyone who contributed food, drinks, and goodies for our special Halloween celebration.  We appreciate your help and generosity. For those who were looking to sign up for Halloween but found all slots were filled, read on...

READING BUDDIES MINI-THANKSGIVING FEAST
One of our most treasured PreK traditions is our Mini-Thanksgiving Feast with Reading Buddies.  This will take place on the morning of Friday, November 16th in the dining hall when the PreKers and the Fourth graders will come together for about one hour of special snacks, friendship, conversation, and a fun Thanksgiving story.  There is a special snack sign-up sheet posted outside the classroom next week for anyone who is able to help out with food, drinks, etc. Thank you in advance!

ALL ABOUT BEARS
The children have been busy painting their own bears at the easel, creating bear caves in STEAM, and painting and decorating their “jointed” bears. They have begun to illustrate their own bear books, and will be working on our bear mural this week. The children have also been using bears with the tree blocks, using bear count and sorts for sorting and classifying, and learning some bear poems and songs. They will also be illustrating a page for our class book and making more related projects that you will be seeing soon. Any time your child wants to show you something on display in the classroom please feel free to come in either at drop off or dismissal time.

BEAR BOOK CHALLENGE:
The PreKers are very excited to be participating in our 50 bear book challenge!  We have read 14 so far and know we have 36 more to go. We’ll keep you up posted on our progress.

These items were in last week’s Little Hoot but are definitely worth reprinting!

VETERANS DAY CELEBRATION

A Look Ahead to Veterans Day and this Friday's All School Meeting

We invite all veterans – family members or friends of family who have served – to a special Veterans Day celebration at this Friday's All School Meeting.

If you plan on attending, please contact Heather Butler with your
  • affiliation to TCS student (if applicable)
  • branch of service
  • years of service.

On that day, students, while remaining in dress code, are encouraged to
wear red, white, and blue.

SUPPORT DISASTER RELIEF

Mary W. Howe Pre-K, a school in Wilmington, NC, was hit hard by Hurricane Florence. As a true Elmore Leader, 7th Grader Christopher C. has taken it upon himself to collect much-needed supplies, and he will deliver them to the school this Thanksgiving. Donation bins have been placed around the school.

Suggested items per grade:
  • PreSchool-Grade 2: Gently-used winter coats, sweaters, sweatshirts, size 12 mos-5T, shoes sizes 5-13
  • Grades 3-4: Underwear, boys' and girls' 3t-5t
  • Grade 5: Socks size 3t-5t
  • Grade 6: Socks size 2t-3t
  • Grade 7: Size 2t-3t Pull-Ups
  • Grade 8: Size 4t-5t Pull-Ups
IRIS COAT, MITTEN, GLOVE DRIVE

Last year the Country School community collected more than a dozen bags filled with winter clothing for families served by IRIS (Integrated Refugee and Immigrant Services) in New Haven. IRIS is doing another collection, so if your family has gently used coats, hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, etc., please bring them to school and drop them in the designated boxes in the Farmhouse, Clark House, the DeFrancis Gymnasium foyer, or the Alumni Office (in Robinson House, just outside Mr. Fixx's office). Thanks so much!

IMPORTANT NOTE FROM OUR SCHOOL NURSE

This is a friendly reminder to kindly submit documentation of administration of the influenza vaccine prior to December 31st..   State of CT immunization guidelines require all children up to age 59 months to have a flu vaccine on file each year between August and December in order to continue in program.  Children receiving an influenza vaccine for the first time are required to have two doses of the vaccine separated by 28 days.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding immunizations please see the CT guidelines on the TCS website or contact me using the information below.

Thank you so much for your prompt attention.
Warm Regards,

Laura
