May 14th-June 1th

PreK Press
May 14th - June 11th

It is hard to believe that this is our last newsletter of the year!  Please read on for important information about upcoming end of the year events and ask if you have any questions.

GROWING THINGS AND THE SPRING SEASON
We have continued learning more about the spring season! We have shared many stories, made several art projects, and planted bean seeds (that began growing first in paper towels), sunflower seeds, and marigold seeds. They have closely examined many different types of seeds and learned many ways that seeds travel throughout the environment. If your child has anything at home regarding this topic that they would like to share, please feel free to have them bring it in. Also please check out Mrs. Lariviere’s STEAM blog for  more information and photos of additional activities and events.

GRANDPARENTS & SPECIAL FRIENDS DAY
Friday, May 10th was a big success for all the children and our visitors!  The PreKers waited with anticipation for their grandparents and special friends to arrive and then were pleased and proud to show off their classroom and projects.  The PreKers did their best to adjust to a totally different schedule and successfully gave tours of the class, shared activities, played with their guests, looked at photographs, and went outside on the playground.  We ended our time together in class with a PreK concert filled with songs, movement, poetry, audience participation, and the sharing of one of our class books. We hope all the adults enjoyed the day as much as the children did!

GRASS ISLAND FIELD TRIP
Despite the less than perfect weather, our field trip to Grass Island with Reading Buddies was a big success and everyone had a great time. The children explored the tidal pools while finding various kinds of crabs, snails, seaweed, and shells.  It was very evident that the 4th graders enjoyed it just as much as the PreKers did, and it was a nice way to celebrate the special bonds that have developed between all the Reading Buddies.  An added bonus was that we also collected a bag full of trash from the shore of Grass Island reinforcing the idea that we all have a responsibility to help keep our environment clean. Thank you to those parents who were able to join us as we appreciate your participation, support, and helpfulness.

NO SCHOOL
This is a reminder that TCS will be closed this coming Monday, May 27th for Memorial Day.  Enjoy the long weekend!

4th GRADE STATE FAIR
On Thursday, May 30th the PreKers will be attending the 4th Grade State Fair. Each 4th grader/Reading Buddy has chosen one state to learn about so we will go to their classroom space where each student will have a display of information and  creative materials that relate to the state they have chosen to study. PreKers will be able to walk around, visit with their Reading Buddies, ask questions, and learn a little bit about each of the states.  It is a wonderful annual event and will be another great experience so be sure to ask your child about it!

PreK CONCERT
The children have been busy practicing for our upcoming PreK Concert that will be taking place on Tuesday, June 4th. It will be in the Music Room beginning at 8:30 A.M. and should last just about one half hour.  Thank you to all who have returned the RSVP portion of the invitation so far as it helps us in planning the set up of the Music Room. (This is the bottom half of the printed invitation that was sent home about 2 weeks ago.) We look forward to seeing you for the concert!

READING BUDDY TALENTS
Since our last newsletter was sent home, all of the PreKers have had the opportunity to share their talents. Gray displayed her talent for drawing, Juliet showed us how she makes pizza dough, Jace shared his reading talent as he read the book Little Pea to everyone, Gianni shared his knowledge of the Chinese language, and Sophia shared her singing talent while accompanying herself on the guitar. Congratulations to all the PreKers! This was a truly exceptional year filled with terrific ideas, presentations, enthusiastic volunteerism, and participation!!!

SELF-PORTRAITS
Last September all PreKers drew self-portraits that were displayed in class.  Next week they will draw new ones and soon both will be hanging side by side on the bulletin board in the classroom .  Be sure to take a look. You may be surprised by some of the growth that has taken place! (These pictures will be sent home - along with all their other projects, folders, clothes, etc. on the last day of school.)

MANILA ENVELOPES
PLEASE be sure to return your child’s manila envelope to class after you get this newsletter.  We use them on the last day of school when we will be sending home lots of class projects and things.

CALLING ALL LIBRARY BOOKS
Please return all TCS library books as soon as possible so the inventory process can be completed before the end of the school year.  Our last day of library will be May 31st. Thank You.

PLANNING AHEAD FOR KINDERGARTEN
Please keep in mind over the summer that any student returning for Kindergarten in the fall will need to have a physical before attending the first day of school.  The forms are available online and if you have any questions please contact Mrs. Fucci.

Thank you for sharing your children with us and making this such an amazing year!

We wish you all the best and hope you all have a wonderful summer!
