PreK Press
February 2nd - March 5th
Valentine Thank You: Thank you all for the many contributions to our Valentine’s Day celebration! The children were thrilled with the variety of Valentine cards sent in, the goodies were all delicious, and the teacher gifts were most appreciated. As always, we appreciate your support, thoughtfulness, and generosity.
Dinosaur Study: Last week the children were very excited to brainstorm a list of what they thought our next unit of study might be. Once the list was completed, we worked to eliminate the ideas one at a time. When all was said and done, the children were thrilled to begin what we believe will become one of their favorite units of study - DINOSAURS. The children have already been introduced to many of the materials that will help them learn about these fascinating but extinct creatures. They will be learning all the correct names of the dinosaurs, whether they ate plants (herbivores), meat (carnivores), or both (omnivores), what their habitats were like, and whether or not they were “friendly”. We will be sharing many interesting facts over the next few weeks and you may be surprised by how much information your children learn! We have lots of exciting activities planned so keep your eyes open for projects being sent home and others displayed in the classroom. We will also be having a Celebration of Learning - Dinosaurs as we near the end of our study. We will let you know the date once it is confirmed.
Reading Buddy Talents: After months of watching the Fourth Graders present their talents to Reading Buddies, it is now almost time for the PreKers to present theirs!!!! Starting March 29th (the week we return from vacation), we will help the children decide when they will share their talent. We will then send a note home in their blue bins – a week in advance – to let you know. Please remember that this is meant to be a FUN, NON-STRESSFUL activity! The children can choose to share or talk about a special talent (karate, ballet, gymnastics, soccer, art, music, etc.) or a special interest (trucks, animals, dolls, etc.) There is no one activity that is preferable over another, there are no minimum time requirements, and we are always right there to help and assist them in any way possible. Please feel free to let your child decide and use his or her imagination! Remember that they are 4 and 5 years old and there is nothing they can do that will be wrong!!!! If you have any questions, concerns, or are looking for some suggestions, please let us know.
Call To Care Uganda: $2.00 Dress Down Day - Friday, March 8th
Through our partnership with Call to Care Uganda, The Country School will send last year's Shoreline FC soccer uniforms to a school we have supported in Uganda in the past. The proceeds from the dress down day will pay for the shipping. We will also include two soccer balls that our students will sign.
PTA Sponsored Dance Night: Just a reminder that the TCS dance will be held on Friday, April 5th from 5:30 - 7:30. Additional information will be forthcoming. Please plan to help support this wonderful event and come have some fun!
TSC School Musical: Please plan on coming to the annual TCS musical. This year the play is Mary Poppins Jr. and there are performances scheduled for both Saturday, April 13th and Sunday, April 14th. Always a great experience, you won’t want to miss it!
TCS Spring Gala at The New Haven Country Club: As you are already aware, the TCS annual auction/fundraiser is coming up on Saturday, April 27th at The New Haven Country Club. This event is always a lot of fun and certainly a worthy cause. We hope you will be able to attend. Come out and enjoy a great evening! The PreKers will be contributing a wonderful piece of artwork that will be available for purchase at the auction and we think that you might want it to hang in your home! We also know that many of you have generously contributed to the Class Auction Item and we thank you for that.
Grandparents OR Special Friends Day: This was printed in the Little Hoot recently but in case you didn’t get a chance to read it, we are copying it here for your convenience:
Dear Parents,
SAVE THE DATE: Grandparents' OR Special Friends' Day will be held on Friday, May 10, 2019.
Grandparents' OR Special Friends' Day (or GPSFD, to which you may see it referred) is a day The Country School devotes each year to allow your child to share his or her school day with a special guest through an intimate classroom event. Students are free to invite a grandparent or other relative, neighbor or friend, or you can attend as your child's guest.
We are looking for volunteers to help before, during, and after the event. Many hands make light work!
If your child had a guest last year for this special day (or invited guests who could not come), you will find the guests' names on this spreadsheet listed by your child's last name. Although your child's first name is not specifically listed, you will see his or her graduation year in the appropriate column.
We ask that you review the guest list and indicate "Yes" or "No" if you would like this guest to be invited this year and indicate "Yes" or "No" if you changed the information listed. To make changes, simply type over the old information and include the relationship of the guest to the student (grandparent, aunt, uncle, cousin, friend, etc.) If you require additional rows, add the information to the bottom of the list, but we kindly ask that you consider our space constraints when making your guest list.
If your family is new, simply type the guest information over your own name.
Changes to the form should save automatically. If in doubt, please email me the information.
For mobile device, iPad, and tablet users: To make changes to the spreadsheet, tap on the cell first then the bottom of your screen — the box to the right of "fx." This will access the keyboard and proceed as above.
Deadline to review the list and make changes: March 8. If we don't hear from you by this date, your guests from last year will be invited. If you did not have guests or if you are a new family, you will receive an invitation to come as your child's guest or to pass the invitation along to someone else.
New Schedule this year: GPSFD will be an early dismissal day at 11:30 a.m. for all students. As we approach the event date, please be sure to inform your child's teacher or advisor of how he/she will be transported home that day. Both Owl's Nest and bus service will be offered.
Schedule for the Day
8:00 - 8:10 a.m. Regular arrival for students
8:15 - 9:00 a.m. Guest arrival, registration, light breakfast in DeFrancis Gymnasium
9:00 - 9:50 a.m. Head of School welcome, student performances

10:00 - 11:30 a.m. Classroom visits
11:00 a.m. Dismissal begins

If you have any questions or have difficulty with the shared document, please don't hesitate to contact me via email or call 203.421.3113, ext. 115.

Sincerely,
Joanne Arrandale
